What Saturday Mornings Look Like, And Summer Too!

A relaxed Saturday morning at our house almost always starts with pancakes by Nate.
Last night we had a date making pickles.  Only he spent most of the time running to the grocery store (two trips) and I took my eyes off of my Stormin' Norman (Stuart) for just a second and there was dill seed and weed just everywhere. We call Stuart Stormin' Norman when he storms around all mad.  I will happily put the pickles in the cold cellar.  For we tasted some and they make you want another one.
Recipe from friend Heidi Musser
Sweet Dill Pickles

4 c vinegar (i used apple cider vinegar instead of distilled)
4 c water
6 c sugar
4 T salt
Heat together until boiling.

3/4 tsp dill seed
3/4 tsp dill weed
Alum
Garlic cloves
A few chopped onions

Slice or chunk pickles and soak in ice water while mixing rest of ingredients. In the bottom of each jar put dill seed and dill weed and a few chopped onions. Pack with sliced cucumbers. Put a garlic clove and a pinch of alum on the top of each jar. Pour hot boiling juice over pickles and process jars in water until they boil. Remove jars from water and allow to seal.

  3. @ Elaine, Alum is with the spices. I believe it is for freshness. Not sure that it is necessary. Funny about your dog.
