Calling For Kitchen Aid

One problem we have run into is my Kitchen Aid Mixer.  It is big and it does not fit under the cabinets on the counter.  Not a single spot where it will fit.  And it is a heavy beast of a mixer that would not be much fun to hoist up and down.  I am not in the mood to get a smaller one either.  As I really do love mine. I did have a Bosch but I left it in Grenada. And I've got to say, I like the kitchen aid more than the Bosch.  Just saying. On to the dilemma.

See that green oven? It's going to go and we need to get the cabinet guy to make something out of that space...  what if we stuck the mixer in there?  and had a pull out shelf below it to keep baking stuff on like measuring cups, spoons, and some spatulas. It would also be a work space to measure stuff.  Then have our fridge open opposite of the way Grandma's did to make it easier to grab the milk and eggs.  Keep my flour and sugar in the left side of the pantry which is on the left of this picture.  How annoying would this be? Do you foresee this being good or bad?

If your husband happens to design kitchens... your opinion matters most!

  1. My sis used to have to hoist her mixer up and down.. not fun! I agree they could make a smaller one! :) I don't have any good advice on the kitchen, though, just wanted to tell ya it is looking nice! ;) Maybe you will inspire me to get around to painting my bedroom. I already have the paint for a few months now.. how lazy is that? I am just dreading the tearing off of multiple layers of wallpaper! Tina H

  2. Put it on a slide out drawer in the over space..with your drawer below. It will be easier to work with, you'd be able to see better and when your done you wipe it down, slide it in and close the doors...next use just open slide out and your good to go. Or not but it could work.

  6. @Tina They do make a smaller mixer but I am partial to my big one.
@anonymous I think you're on to something with the mixer on a slide out thinger.
@Chris I do want to know what Keith says. And what did he say about the oven. Let me guess... "Beautiful, so retro" The wall paper is on the way out. Taking very much time and persuasion.
@Carla, had to do it now while I'm still excited you know.

  9. I hoist my kithen aid mixer up and down (and across my kitchen) every time I use it. I designed an appliance garage for it, BUT the garage door is too low (due to uneven floors and the high end being in that same corner). I've been doing this for the last 12 years and have gotten used to it. It's doable, but not ideal. I like to think of it as part of my workout routine. :)

  10. looks good. i can't wait to see picture of it finished. our kitchen aid is in the bottom cupboard, i always lock it before storing it away so it stays together when i yank it out.
a push rod w/ fun fabric would be great for the vacant oven spot.
